Panthers Call Up Marco Wilson as the Cornerback Room Runs Out of Bodies Before TNF in Green Bay

The Carolina Panthers are elevating veteran cornerback Marco Wilson from the practice squad for tonight’s Thursday Night Football trip to Green Bay, as first reported by ClutchPoints. The move comes with Carolina’s secondary in rough shape.

Both starting corners, Jaycee Horn and Mike Jackson, are on injured reserve. Akayleb Evans, who stepped in for them, is dealing with triceps and knee injuries. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, that leaves only two healthy cornerbacks on the 53-man roster: Will Lee III and Chau Smith-Wade.

Wilson brings 37 career starts. Head coach Dave Canales called him a “quicker athletic mover” who could line up on the outside.

The IAHHM Take

This is a tough draw for the Cats. Carolina is coming off a heavy loss to Tampa Bay on Sunday, and now it has to go into Lambeau Field on a short week. Green Bay’s passing game, led by Jordan Love with Christian Watson and Matthew Golden on the outside, has been one of the most productive in the league this season.

The injuries don’t stop at corner. Pass rusher Jaelan Phillips is out with a hamstring injury for a second straight game, and left guard Damien Lewis is ruled out with a knee injury. Less pressure up front plus a thin secondary is a scary combo against a quarterback who can sling it.

Kickoff is 8:15 p.m. ET on Prime Video, and the Packers are 3.5-point favorites, per Covers. For Canales, tonight is about whether the next men up can keep it close. Carolina fans, what’s your call: do the Panthers keep this one within a field goal, or does Green Bay air it out?

Around the league, CeeDee Lamb says nobody can stop Dallas after Monday night. We’ll see who’s talking after tonight.
