The Minnesota Vikings are 5-0, and Kyler Murray is starting to look right at home. Murray completed 24 of 30 passes for 229 yards and a touchdown in a 23-13 win over the New Orleans Saints, and head coach Kevin O’Connell was all smiles afterward, as first reported by ClutchPoints.
O’Connell’s explanation for the jump was simple: “It’s just game reps.” He praised Murray’s “tremendous poise all day long,” along with his decision-making and athleticism, and called the performance a lot to build on.
A Fresh Start in Minnesota
Remember where Murray was a year ago. The former No. 1 overall pick spent seven seasons in Arizona, but injuries and losing seasons wore that marriage down. He played just five games in 2025, and the Cardinals moved on. Minnesota brought him in on a one-year deal, and five weeks in, nobody in Minneapolis is complaining.
The IAHHM Take
This is the version of Kyler people forgot about. Eighty percent completions, no drama, just running an offense with a coach who knows how to scheme for quarterbacks. A one-year “prove it” contract was supposed to be a bridge. If he keeps this up, it might be the best value signing in the league.
The real test comes in the second half of the season. The Vikings head into their bye undefeated, then come back against the Indianapolis Colts. Undefeated teams get every opponent’s best shot, and Murray has to show he can carry it when the defense isn’t carrying him.
