Week 4 hit some of the NFL’s biggest names hard. Ja’Marr Chase is in the league’s concussion protocol, and Saquon Barkley is week-to-week with a hamstring injury, according to an injury roundup from ClutchPoints. The Barkley timeline came from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
The Big Ones
- Ja’Marr Chase, Bengals: concussion protocol.
- Tee Higgins, Bengals: adductor injury, day-to-day per head coach Zac Taylor. That’s a double hit for Cincinnati’s receiver room.
- Saquon Barkley, Eagles: hamstring, week-to-week.
- Lamar Jackson, Ravens: ankle, day-to-day.
- Rashee Rice, Chiefs: hamstring, did not return.
- Tyquan Thornton, Chiefs: dislocated left ankle, out indefinitely pending more tests.
- Patrick Surtain, Broncos: ankle, expected to be short-term.
Out for the Season
- Paris Johnson Jr., Cardinals: biceps.
- Edgerrin Cooper, Packers: torn Achilles.
Also banged up: Antoine Winfield Jr. (ribs), Jonathan Greenard (ankle), Kyle Juszczyk (ankle), Ladd McConkey (foot), Joe Alt (neck) and DJ Moore (shoulder).
The IAHHM Take
The Lamar Jackson ankle is the one to watch most closely. Baltimore is 3-1 and has the Falcons up next on Monday Night Football, so every practice report this week matters. Cincinnati’s situation is scarier: losing Chase and having Higgins limited at the same time takes away the whole identity of that offense.
If you play fantasy or bet on games, this is your reminder: “day-to-day” and “week-to-week” are very different labels. Wait for the Wednesday and Thursday practice reports before you lock anything in. Lines move fast on injury news, and the people who wait for real information usually come out ahead.
