Mike Evans didn’t say a word back to Trevon Diggs. He just spun him around and read the name on the back of his jersey. Richard Sherman, who knows a thing or two about trash talk, is calling it a classic.
As first reported by ClutchPoints, the moment came during a heated fourth-quarter exchange in the 49ers’ 32-29 comeback win over the Seahawks in Week 5. Diggs, now with Seattle, got in Evans’ face. Evans grabbed him by the shoulder pads, turned him around and checked the nameplate like he had no clue who he was dealing with.
Sherman posted on X on Sunday: “Mike Evans Checking to see the name on the back of the Jersey is an all-time Gif and trash talk moment.”
Evans Backed It Up
The troll hit harder because Evans delivered on the field. He caught seven passes for 113 yards and tied Tony Gonzalez for ninth on the NFL’s all-time receiving touchdowns list. San Francisco is now 5-0 heading into Week 6.
The IAHHM Take
The best disrespect is silent. Evans didn’t need a single word, and that’s what makes it hit. It’s the football version of a rapper responding to a diss by asking “Who?” in an interview, and we just saw that energy from DK Metcalf with Sauce Gardner too.
The Sherman co-sign matters. He’s one of the most legendary talkers to ever line up at corner, and the Seahawks were his home. When the guy from the Legion of Boom era is giving a 49ers receiver his flowers for trash talk, you know it landed.
And Evans doing this in his first season in red and gold, while climbing the all-time touchdown list, is a statement. He’s not just there to finish his career. He’s there to win right now.
