The Backstory
The Air Griffey Max 1 debuted in 1996 as Ken Griffey Jr.’s signature shoe, famous for its big ankle strap and chunky Air Max cushioning. This pair pays tribute to the nine seasons Griffey spent with the Cincinnati Reds starting in 2000.
Design Details
Varsity Red and White split the upper, with black on the Swoosh and midsole. Griffey’s “24” sits on the ankle strap, and visible Air units in the heel and forefoot keep that late-’90s look intact.
If you grew up with the Griffey Max on your feet, or on your bedroom wall, this is the one.
