New Music Roundup: Victoria Monét, Quavo, Ari Lennox, Mac Miller, NoCap and More

Friday, October 2 was loaded. Victoria Monét finally delivered her follow-up to JAGUAR II, Quavo went all in with Pharrell, Ari Lennox checked back in, and Mac Miller’s The Divine Feminine came back with music fans never heard. Here’s what dropped this release week and a quick take on each.

Victoria Monét – Frequency of Love

Released: Friday, Oct. 2 | Label: Lovett Music/RCA Records

Her first album since the Grammy-winning JAGUAR II, led by “Let Me” and “Reach Out,” the D’Mile and Kaytranada-produced single with a Dave Meyers-directed video and Sean Bankhead choreography (SoulBounce).

The take: Three years in the making, and “Reach Out” already proved she’s still R&B’s best student of the groove.

Quavo – QRÖMELIFE

Released: Friday, Oct. 2 | Label: Quality Control/Motown

Fourteen tracks, all produced by Pharrell. Offset shows up on “Away,” their first collab since 2021, plus T.I., Future, Lil Baby, Yung Miami and Justin Timberlake. “Baby Breath” pulls in Tyler, the Creator, A$AP Rocky and Pharrell (Hypebeast).

The take: Quavo’s most experimental solo run yet, and that Offset reunion alone is worth the press of play. We broke it down in our Week in Review.

Ari Lennox – Vacancy: Late Checkout

Released: Friday, Oct. 2 | Label: Interscope Records

The deluxe edition of January’s Vacancy adds nine new songs, including the Tommy Brown-produced “Hookah Baby,” the Jay Versace-produced “Slide” and a “Mobbin in DC” remix with Foggieraw (uDiscover Music).

The take: Nine new songs is basically a new album. Ari doesn’t do filler deluxes.

Meshell Ndegeocello – Synonym

Released: Friday, Oct. 2 | Label: Blue Note Records

A duets album of classic covers with a huge guest list, including Chaka Khan, Robert Glasper, Cynthia Erivo, Lianne La Havas, Moses Sumney, Emily King, Lizz Wright, Destin Conrad and WILLOW. She co-produced it with Abe Rounds and David Gamson, who produced her first two albums in the ’90s (Blue Note).

The take: A grown-folks listen from one of the most fearless bassists and songwriters R&B has ever had.

Mac Miller – The Divine Feminine (10th Anniversary Edition)

Released: Friday, Oct. 2 | Label: Warner Records

The 2016 album returns with its original 10 songs plus three previously unreleased tracks from the same era, including “Butterflies” with Thundercat on bass (Ratings Game Music).

The take: Mac’s love letter of an album still sounds warm 10 years later, and the vault cuts fit right in.

NoCap – Heaven On Mars

Released: Friday, Oct. 2

The Mobile, Alabama rapper’s first full album since Before I Disappear Again in June 2024. It runs 18 tracks and follows the singles “Leverage,” “Basic Burner” and “Angels Smile” (BroadwayWorld).

The take: If you like your street rap with real pain and melody in it, NoCap is still one of the best doing it.

Drake – HABIBTI Deluxe (FOMO)

Released: Just ahead of Friday, Oct. 2 | Format: 4 new songs

Drake expanded HABIBTI with four new songs tied to his FOMO rollout, including two collaborations with Don Toliver, available on all major streaming platforms (HotNewHipHop).

The take: More R&B-leaning Drake with Don Toliver riding shotgun. A smart way to put HABIBTI back in rotation.

Lil Nas X – “World’s Greatest!” (Single)

Released: Thursday, Oct. 1

His return single, written by Lil Nas X and produced by C.WRAY and Steve Rusch. The Atlanta-shot video, directed by Phillip Youmans, honors his late mother and her favorite saying, “Walk by faith, not by sight” (Stereogum).

The take: An upbeat song with a heavy heart behind it. Welcome back.
