Timbaland Sues Former Managers for $15 Million, Alleging They Drained His Finances

Timbaland has filed a $15 million lawsuit against his former manager Gary Marella and former business manager Bruce Seckendorf, accusing them of draining his finances while his mortgage went unpaid, as reported by AllHipHop and first detailed by The Hollywood Reporter.

What the Lawsuit Claims

The 65-page complaint was filed October 30 in Los Angeles Superior Court. It also names Mono Music Group, LL Business Management and the accounting firm Seckendorf Hasson Reilly & Kobay. The claims include fraud, civil theft and breach of fiduciary duty.

According to the reporting, the trouble surfaced in 2025, when a foreclosure notice exposed problems that included unpaid federal taxes and penalties. The complaint alleges Marella took an extra $500,000 on each of two $5 million Verzuz payments, plus $775,000 beyond his stated 10 percent commission on Timbaland’s catalog sale. It also accuses him of mismanaging Beatclub, Timbaland’s platform for connecting up-and-coming creators with established artists.

“The foreclosure was not caused simply because Plaintiffs had no money,” the complaint says, per THR. Both men were fired in 2025, and neither they nor their firms immediately responded to THR’s requests for comment. These are allegations, and none have been proven in court.

The IAHHM Take

This one stings because of who it is. Timbaland built the sound of a generation for Aaliyah, Missy Elliott, Jay-Z and Justin Timberlake, sold his catalog to Hipgnosis in 2019, and co-created Verzuz, one of the biggest wins for producers in hip hop history. If a legend at that level can end up facing a foreclosure notice, nobody is safe from bad business.

Back in 2021, Timbaland told the AP that creators using Beatclub were “learning financial literacy.” Turns out that lesson applies at the top, too. Artists, producers and athletes: who’s checking the people checking your money?
