The defending champs are in a hole. The Milwaukee Brewers beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 7-4 in Game 2 on Monday to take a 2-0 lead in the NLCS, and Max Muncy is the one standing at the podium saying relax, as first reported by ClutchPoints.
“There’s still a lot of series left,” Muncy said. He admitted LA wanted to steal at least one game in Milwaukee, but he backed his team to rip off three or four straight and called on Dodger Stadium to bring the noise.
How LA Got Here
Milwaukee took Game 1 by a 2-1 score at American Family Field, then came from behind again in Game 2. The Dodgers grabbed several early leads Monday and couldn’t hold any of them. Yoshinobu Yamamoto, usually LA’s October rock, lasted only 2 2/3 innings, though Muncy said he expects his ace to bounce back.
Don’t sleep on the Brewers, either. They won an MLB-best 103 games, which is why the first two games were in Milwaukee.
The IAHHM Take
Muncy has earned the right to talk. He came into this series with 19 career postseason homers, a Dodgers record, including three against Atlanta in the NLDS. And this franchise has been here before: in the 2020 NLCS, LA climbed out of 2-0 and 3-1 holes against the Braves on the way to a title, and it came back from 3-2 down in last year’s World Series.
Still, swagger doesn’t score runs. The Dodgers need four wins in the next five games against the best team in baseball. Game 3 is Wednesday at Dodger Stadium, and if Milwaukee steals that one, the conversation changes fast.
So who you got: Brewers finishing the job, or the Dodgers flipping the script again? If you love a good upset story, catch up on Oklahoma knocking off No. 1 Texas.
