The Houston Texans are 0-4 after a 34-30 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, and C.J. Stroud is leaning on an old lesson from Ohio State. As first reported by ClutchPoints, Stroud recalled advice from his college coach Ryan Day: “You have to be an iPhone. You gotta upgrade every year.”
Stroud’s point: last year’s 12-5 record and run to the divisional round don’t count anymore. You have to flush the wins and the losses and start over.
The Numbers Don’t Look Like 0-4
Stroud played well. He went 21-of-31 for 347 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. Nico Collins, back from a hamstring injury, had seven catches for 118 yards and two scores. Houston led by 10 at the half and still lost, because Dallas outscored Houston 28-14 after the break.
The IAHHM Take
The iPhone line is a good one, and it’s honest. Last season doesn’t carry over, and right now the Texans look stuck on an old version, especially on defense. Head coach DeMeco Ryans put this loss on that unit.
Here’s what makes it tough: the quarterback is doing his job. When your QB throws for almost 350 yards with no picks and you still lose, the problem isn’t the guy holding the phone. It’s everything else that needs a software update.
The good news? It’s only October. The bad news? 0-4 teams don’t get many more chances.
Can Houston still make the playoffs from 0-4, or is this season already a reset?
