The Dallas Cowboys are just over a month away from kicking off their new season as they take part in training camp. The Cowboys are hoping for a much better year from their defense, which struggled mightily throughout the 2025 season.
Recently, Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer spoke on the team’s quest for a starting left tackle on the offensive line.
“Brian Schottenheimer said that today’s padded practice and the joint practice against the Rams could help determine whether Nate Thomas can get back in the LT competition,” reported Joseph Hoyt of the Dallas Morning News on X, formerly Twitter, noting that for now, Tyler Guyton has been taking the practice reps at the position.
“Nate gets it. Nate’s competitive. He wants to make that move,” said Schottenheimer.
The Cowboys selected Thomas in the seventh round of the 2024 draft, and he has stuck around the organization since then, although he still hasn’t established himself as a starter, as he looks to come back and beat Guyton for the job this season.
The Cowboys’ offensive line has typically been among the best in the NFL over the past several years, and was once again a solid unit last year, giving Dak Prescott enough time in the pocket to turn in what would have been an MVP-level season had the team won more games.
Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case, as the defense was just as dismal as the offense was impressive, leading Dallas to miss the playoffs altogether for a second straight year. This offseason, the Cowboys poured a lot of resources into fixing that unit, including drafting Caleb Downs with one of their two first-round picks.
Dallas will kick off its new season on September 13.
