Meet Young E.Z. The Hidden Bronx Gem
New York artist Young E.Z. is gearing up to have a very successful year. With his “I Am Who I Am” album dropping August 26th, he is certain about making a name for himself. I had the pleasure of catching up with the rising emcee to discuss his love for creating music, some people he has worked with, and why he is up next to blow. Check it out below.
Young E.Z. Interview
For those who are not familiar with you, tell me a little bit about yourself?
My name is Young E.Z. and I’m a music artist from the Bronx. I have been rapping and singing since a young age, but it wasn’t until recently where I started taking it seriously. I come from a neighborhood where nobody really pursues music, so I was hesitant to push
myself. But one day I was just messing around with a 40$ microphone in my room and
made a song I was actually proud of and considered to be good enough to blow up in my own mind.
I dropped it, from that point on my management picked me up and it was
history. I started getting studio sessions paid for me which was a game-changer because
at first, I couldn’t afford it. Since then I’ve been making around 3-5 songs a week which
has resulted in me having a massive 300 song unreleased catalog but we somehow
narrowed it down to 12 and dropped my first album Time To Shine in August 2019, with
features like NLE Choppa, Spades Saratoga, and other established artists in the industry.
One of the songs on my album called “Paradise” blew up over SoundCloud and now has over 500k on the app and over one million streams total. Running off that momentum
dropped two EPS and some singles but now my next album “I Am Who I Am” is coming
out Aug 26th, and it’s the best piece of art I have ever made by far. The features I wanted,
songs I wanted to make and how I wanted them to sound all came out perfect and I really
know this is the album to push me into the mainstream media outlets.
How long have you been doing music?
Young E.Z.: I have been doing music my whole life. Originally it would be singing and rapping at talent shows as young as 3rd grade, I just always had a passion for music and performing. It wasn’t until my junior year of high school when I decided I had enough confidence in my abilities to make this my career.
What inspired you to want to get involved in the music industry?
Young E.Z.: Honestly at first what inspired me to get involved in music was a combination of how much I love music and how much I hated high school. I loved music but more
importantly, it was an excuse not to do the dumb work I was assigned. I feel like high
schools try to make you feel stupider if you’re not perfect at every subject when in reality
you just need to work your ass off at one thing. I think me getting to where I’m at in music with just dropping everything else and focusing on that proves that. Just because the path you are told to go on is the normal choice, doesn’t mean it’s the right choice.
Is there any artist signed or unsigned that you would love to collaborate with?
Young E.Z.: Well on my album thankfully I was able to work with a lot of my favorite artists. I’m super excited to show this tape I’ve worked so hard on and for everybody to see the names I have lined up on it.
What have been some of your biggest accomplishments in your career? Please
Young E.Z.: My biggest accomplishment as of right now is probably just the fact that I got here. Everyone around me was going to college or had a job set up for them and was telling me I was insane and stupid for pursuing my dream. Now I have an album dropping with my favorite artist and made more money last year off my music than I would’ve ever made working a 9-5. So I’m more proud of myself for blocking out the hate and trusting my own abilities more than anything numbers or money-related.
If we were to open a playlist of your favorite music, which artist would we find in your playlist?
Young E.Z.: Xxxtentacion and ski mask the slump god are the artists that really made me need to go into music because to me, music is all about pushing good energy and having people feel your energy and use it for there own happiness or motivation. To me nobody did that as X did in the way you can feel emotions in his songs whether he’s angry or sad, you can hear the pain or anger in his voice. Not only is X my biggest inspiration but I also
find myself listening to him very often. RIP.
Can you explain how you got your name?
Young E.Z.: Well my name is Ezra, and when I was freestyling, my friend Jordan was saying how it’s too easy for me and it doesn’t make sense. He came up with the name young E.Z.
because of that. Also, because those are just the first two letters of my name lmao.
What is one thing about you that people and supporters may not know (i.e. hobby,
special talent, etc.)?
Young E.Z.: Music really is my life so most of the time if I’m not in the studio I’ll be hanging out with some girls and the homies, or playing basketball. I just like to have fun and for me music isn’t only a job, it’s my hobby and passion
What words of advice would you give to an artist just starting out?
Young E.Z.: I would just go off on what I said before and although it’s cliché, don’t let what people say get in your head. The amount of times I was told I wasn’t going anywhere by kids my age is too many to count. I said fuck them and never looked back. Now I’m making money and having fun while doing it. So, I suggest if anybody has a dream, stop being a bitch and go for it.
