No. 1 Texas Lost to Unranked Oklahoma, Then Told the Sooners They ‘Still Suck’

Unranked Oklahoma knocked off No. 1 Texas 27-24 in the Red River Rivalry at the Cotton Bowl on Saturday, and the Longhorns didn’t take it quietly. After the final whistle, players from both sides got into it, with Texas players reportedly yelling “Y’ALL STILL SUCK” at the team that just beat them.

As first reported by ClutchPoints, head coach Steve Sarkisian had to step in and pull his players away to cool things down.

How It Fell Apart for Texas

Texas, led by quarterback Arch Manning, was up 17-7 at halftime and looked in control. Oklahoma flipped the second half, answered a late Texas touchdown and closed it out in a wild finish.

The history here is real. Per ClutchPoints, it was Oklahoma’s first win over an AP No. 1 team since 2007. And Texas joins Alabama as the only AP No. 1 teams to lose to unranked opponents since 2010.

Sarkisian didn’t hide from it afterward: “There’s a level of anger and frustration because we know we have issues that need to be fixed.”

The IAHHM Take

Rivalry trash talk is part of the culture, and the Red River Rivalry is built on bad blood. But talking that talk on your way to the locker room after a loss? That’s a bold strategy. In hip hop terms, it’s dropping a diss track after you already got washed on the scoreboard.

Still, don’t sleep on Texas. One loss in October doesn’t end a Playoff run, and a team this talented with something to prove can be dangerous. The question is whether the Longhorns turn that frustration into fuel or let it turn into a spiral.
