Hurricanes’ Brandon Bussi makes Knicks admission after Stanley Cup win Michael Whitaker- ClutchPoints

The legend of goaltender Brandon Bussi will continue to grow for the Carolina Hurricanes, who won the Stanley Cup with a 3-0 shutout victory over the Vegas Golden Knights on Sunday evening. It marks the first time since 2006 that the Hurricanes were the last NHL team standing.

For Bussi, he authored nothing short of an impressive first season with the Hurricanes, going 31-6-2 during the regular season with a 2.47 goals-against average and a pair of shutouts. But he was on the bench for the first three rounds of the postseason, as starter Frederik Andersen led the way to the Stanley Cup Final.

But after Andersen allowed four goals in Game 3, Bussi was put into the net by coach Rod Brind’Amour, and he took the baton the rest of the way. Bussi, who is from Sound Beach, New York, isn’t just celebrating the Stanley Cup victory.

A fan of the New York Knicks, who won their first NBA title since 1973 barely 24 hours prior, he was thrilled to have seen them capture the championship.

“It was so cool to see,” Bussi said via Greg Wyshynski on X. “So cool for New York.”

Bussi, who was never drafted into the NHL after playing with the NCAA’s Western Michigan Broncos, spent time in the Boston Bruins organization before signing a contract with the Florida Panthers before the start of this season. However, he was waived by Florida and subsequently claimed by the Hurricanes, which will now go down as one of the most underrated waiver claims in recent NHL history.
