Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson received multiple honors from Boynton Beach High School on Friday, as the school officially retired his No. 7 jersey and renamed the street outside the campus “Lamar Jackson Way.” City officials also adjusted the speed limit on the newly named road to seven miles per hour as another tribute to Jackson’s jersey number.

Jackson returned to the Florida school where he starred for two seasons and accounted for 53 touchdowns. The ceremony included former teammates, community members, and school officials. Current Boynton Beach head coach and former teammate Tre Smith called the event “a great moment in Boynton Beach community history” while announcing the jersey retirement.

Before becoming a two-time NFL MVP with the Ravens, Jackson turned heads as one of Florida’s most electrifying high school players under head coach Rick Swain. He was ranked as the No. 8 dual-threat quarterback nationally and the No. 31 overall player in Florida, according to 247Sports. Scout.com also listed him as the No. 30 player nationally at his position and the No. 8 prospect in the South Region.

Jackson’s production at Boynton Beach made him one of the state’s most dangerous dual-threat quarterbacks. During his senior season in 2014, he threw for 1,293 yards and 20 touchdowns while rushing for 1,039 yards and 19 more scores.

As a junior, Jackson recorded 1,740 passing yards and 25 touchdowns while rushing for 1,401 yards and 16 scores. He also earned Florida Class 6A All-State First Team honors and became the first Boynton Beach player to win the Lou Groza Award High School Player of the Year honor.

Jackson later continued his rise at University of Louisville, where he won the 2016 Heisman Trophy, Davey O’Brien Award, Maxwell Award, and ACC Player of the Year honors. Louisville retired his No. 8 jersey in 2021.
