With the college basketball transfer portal set to close this week as far as entering, the Ole Miss Rebels secured their fourth commitment of the offseason with the addition of an intriguing big man in former James Madison forward Christian Brown, as per Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports.
Christian Brown’s commitment to Ole Miss gives the Rebels some additional size in the frontcourt, especially on the defensive end of the court. As a freshman last season for the Dukes, Brown set a first-year record with 49 blocked shots. He joins guard Adam Clark, forward Roman Siulepa and center ND Okafor as the Rebels’ new additions via the portal so far.
A former three-star prospect, Brown was able to earn a rotation spot at James Madison in his first season of college basketball. He appeared in 33 games off the bench at a little over 13 minutes per game. He averaged 3.0 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.5 blocked shots with splits of 56.3 percent shooting from the field, 33.3 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 56.8 percent shooting from the free-throw line.
The Rebels will be entering their fourth season with Chris Beard at the helm as head coach. He was hired ahead of the 2023-24 season, and led Ole Miss to a 20-12 record albeit missing the NCAA Tournament. Beard led the team to the tournament in 2024-25 with a 24-12 overall record, including 10-8 in SEC play, and they reached the Sweet 16.
Ole Miss will be looking to bounce back from last season, however, as the Rebels finished with a losing record of 15-20, and 4-14 in the SEC.
