Colorado lost 20-10 to Arizona State on Saturday, dropping the Buffaloes to 3-6, and Deion Sanders didn’t pretend otherwise. “The season don’t look good,” Sanders told reporters after the game, as first reported by Bleacher Report. “I’m not crazy. I can see clearly.”
Coach Prime also made it clear he’s not taking it lightly, saying he’s “not a loser by any means” and that he hates coming up on the short end of these games.
The offense is the problem. Colorado came in with the worst scoring offense in the Big 12 at 21 points per game, got shut out in the first half and didn’t find the end zone until it was down 20-3 with a little over eight minutes left. The Buffs started 2-0 and have now lost six of their last seven.
The IAHHM Take
Respect the honesty. A lot of coaches would hide behind “we’re close” or “it’s a process.” Deion looked at the scoreboard and said what everybody can see.
But the honesty only goes so far. Bleacher Report notes Colorado went 9-4 in Sanders’ second season in 2024 and is 6-15 in the two years since. Without Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter, the program hasn’t found a new identity, and the offense has gone from must-watch to hard to watch.
This still matters to the culture. Coach Prime brought HBCU swag to the Power Four, and his Jackson State run put SWAC football in front of a national audience. That’s why every Colorado slide turns into a referendum on him.
So what’s the fix: a new offensive play-caller, a portal reload, or more time? Tell us.
