UCF Stuns No. 2 BYU in Double Overtime for the Biggest Win in Program History

UCF handed No. 2 BYU its first loss of the season Saturday night, winning 39-31 in double overtime in Orlando, per Deadspin’s Top 25 roundup. It’s the Knights’ first win ever over an opponent ranked that high.

How It Went Down

This one almost never made it to overtime. UCF quarterback Keyone Jenkins got stopped on a sneak at the BYU 1-yard line with 1:42 left. Then BYU’s Faletau Satuala blocked Will Stone’s 46-yard field goal try on the Knights’ final drive.

In the first OT, BYU’s Bear Bachmeier hit Legend Glasker for a 28-yard score. Jenkins answered with a scrambling 25-yard touchdown to Josh Derry.

In the second OT, Jenkins found Grayson Brousseau from 4 yards out and hit Tyren Hornes for the two-point conversion. The UCF defense then stuffed BYU on fourth down at the 4-yard line to end it.

Jenkins finished with 293 passing yards and three touchdowns. Hornes had six catches for 137 yards. Bachmeier threw for 257 and a score and ran for another.

The IAHHM Take

Saturday was chaos, and UCF was the loudest part of it. BYU falls to 6-1 and the playoff picture just got a lot messier.

The upsets didn’t stop in Orlando. Cincinnati beat No. 8 Texas Tech, Wisconsin handled No. 16 USC 24-7, and Minnesota took down No. 15 Iowa on a walk-off field goal. No. 19 Texas also held off No. 7 Ole Miss 34-27, with Arch Manning throwing three touchdowns. That’s a big answer after his AD said “Rome is not burning” earlier in the week.

Carolina got in on it too. South Carolina beat No. 11 Tennessee 27-24 when Malik Orsan drilled a 48-yarder on the final play. Columbia is going to be loud all week.

So who had the best upset of the weekend: UCF, Cincinnati or the Gamecocks?
