Hit-Boy Gets Personal on ‘The Chauncey Hollis Project II’

Hit-Boy is back with The Chauncey Hollis Project II, a nine-track mixtape that trades radio hooks for reflection. It’s his eighth mixtape and his second release of 2026, following HITStory 2: Success is a Dirty Word from earlier this summer, as first reported by UndergroundHipHopBlog.

The guest list is tight: The Alchemist on “Lunch Line,” 03 Greedo on “P.O.P. (Purpose Over Pride)” and Half-a-Mil on “Don’t Let Them Stress You.”

What’s On It

“On a Streak” opens over an R&B sample with straight confidence. “Politickin’” is about success and refusing to coast on it. “Lunch Line” brings back the sunny feel of Goldfish, his joint project with Alchemist. The heaviest moment is “Cannonball,” where Hit-Boy goes back to childhood memories and people he grew up with who were later killed. “Overdid It” closes things out on piano chords.

UndergroundHipHopBlog gave it a 7/10, saying it adds chipmunk soul and jazz rap touches while keeping the boom bap and trap balance of HITStory 2.

The IAHHM Take

It’s easy to forget how deep Hit-Boy’s résumé runs. The Fontana, California producer has credits on “N****s in Paris,” Kendrick Lamar’s “Backseat Freestyle,” Mary J. Blige’s “Stronger” and Lil Wayne and Eminem’s “Drop the World,” and he has worked with Beyoncé, Drake, Travis Scott, Big Sean, Benny the Butcher and Nas.

Most producers at that level would keep chasing placements. Hit-Boy keeps choosing the mic and telling his own story, and this tape leans into that harder than ever. The Chauncey Hollis name is a tell: this is the man, not the brand.

The question for fans: do you want Hit-Boy the rapper, or would you rather hear him cooking for somebody else? Sound off below.
