Odds as of Wednesday morning, Oct. 21, 2026 (FanDuel/DraftKings). Lines move, so shop before you bet. 21+ only.
Opening week usually has the softest lines of the season. Books are pricing rosters that have never played together: Giannis in Miami, LaMelo in Minnesota, Trae and AD in Washington, Kawhi in Toronto. Below, we compared each market’s no-vig price with the numberFire projections via FanDuel Research and the injury news, and kept only the plays where the gap is real. If the model and the market disagreed by a ridiculous amount (Clippers 85%, Hornets 76%, Pelicans 67%), we passed. Edges that size on opening week almost always mean the model is using stale roster inputs, not that the book got it wrong.

NBA Best Bets Tonight
Heat Moneyline (-120) vs. Timberwolves, 7:30 PM
Giannis Antetokounmpo makes his Miami debut at home, and the price still treats this like a coin flip with a little home court on top. The no-vig line gives Miami about 52.4%. The numberFire model has the Heat at 57.4%, which makes this the cleanest moneyline value on the board. Minnesota added LaMelo Ball, but it is missing Naz Reid, and that is a problem on the glass against Giannis. Covers also lands on Miami, putting the Heat’s win probability as high as 55%. Two independent reads point the same way at a short price. That’s the play.
Grizzlies Moneyline (-120) vs. Jazz, 8:00 PM
Utah is without Jusuf Nurkic and Tony Bradley. That likely pushes Jaren Jackson Jr. to center against Zach Edey, who grabbed 3.9 offensive rebounds a game last season. The Jazz also allowed a league-worst 126 points per game a year ago and ranked 29th in defensive rating. The model has Memphis at 55.6% against a 52.4% implied price. The edge is small, but it’s backed by a matchup that makes sense.
Mavericks vs. Rockets Under 230.5, 8:30 PM
Houston played at the league’s 29th-ranked pace last season with a top-five defense, and it gets Fred VanVleet back and adds Marcus Smart. Dallas ranked 29th in road offense and went 14-26 to the Under away from home. Amen Thompson and Jabari Smith Jr. are built to take away the perimeter looks that Dallas needs. The Rockets are a 9.5-point favorite, and we’d rather have the total than lay that number on opening night.
Bucks vs. Wizards Over 238.5, 7:00 PM
Both rosters were rebuilt in the Giannis trade era. Washington now has Trae Young and Anthony Davis at Brian Keefe’s fast pace, and Milwaukee brings in Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Kel’el Ware. Both teams ranked in the bottom 10 in points allowed last season, the Over went 47-35 in Wizards games, and two of last season’s four meetings cleared 250. One more note: the model rates Milwaukee about even (51%) at +148. If you want a small-stake dart, the Bucks’ moneyline is the biggest price-versus-projection gap we’d actually consider.
Prop Play: Andrew Nembhard Over 5.5 Assists (Pacers vs. Pelicans, 8:00 PM)
Tyrese Haliburton plays his first regular-season game since the Achilles tear, and Rick Carlisle is expected to manage his playmaking load. With Nesmith also out, more of the offense runs through Nembhard. In games last season where he played 25+ minutes without McConnell, he averaged 9.8 assists and had at least six in all five.
Passes and Leans
- Raptors -10.5 vs. Bulls: The model’s 83.6% win probability is only a few points above the market. That’s a lean, not a bet, at double digits.
- Warriors at Lakers (Lakers -6.5, O/U 233.5): Covers likes the Over with Luka playing off the ball more. We don’t see a pricing edge, so we’re watching this one, not betting it.
- Clippers vs. Kings: The model’s 85% for L.A. is an outlier we don’t trust. If you want a side, the value case is on Sacramento plus the points with Brandon Ingram and Max Strus out.
NHL Best Bets Tonight
Flyers +1.5 (-162) at Sabres, 7:30 PM (TNT)
The public is all over Buffalo, with about 90% of moneyline bets on the Sabres per DraftKings’ splits. But this Sabres team doesn’t blow anyone out. Four of its nine games have gone past regulation, and seven of Philadelphia’s 11 have been decided by one goal. Buffalo’s special teams are a mess, too: a 9.09% power play and a 64.52% penalty kill that has allowed 11 goals on 31 chances. Philly is banged up (Konecny, Tippett, Foerster, York and Ristolainen are out), but Matvei Michkov has scored in three straight. The risk is an empty-net goal, so play this at -165 or better, and watch the goalie confirmations. Dan Vladar is projected for Philly, and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen (.860) for Buffalo.
Panthers Moneyline (-112) at Senators, 7:30 PM
Florida has won three straight, outscoring opponents 18-8 and going 6-for-11 on the power play. The Panthers rank 3rd in 5-on-5 shot attempt share, and Ottawa ranks 27th. A gap that big shouldn’t be priced at a pick’em. Then there’s the storyline: Brady Tkachuk returns to Ottawa wearing a Panthers sweater with six goals and three assists, next to his brother Matthew, who has nine assists. Take the moneyline, not the -1.5 puck line, where 98% of the handle is already sitting.
IAHHM Take
There’s no lock on this card. What you get is a handful of short-priced spots where the number is a little off. Bet them flat, don’t chase, and remember that opening-night variance is brutal. If you want one bet to feel good about, it’s the Heat moneyline: home court, Giannis’s debut, a short-handed Wolves frontcourt, and a model and a market that disagree in our favor.
IAHHM 3-leg sweat (small stake): Heat ML + Grizzlies ML + Panthers ML, about +530.
