Three-Peat Denied: The Brewers Just Swept the Dodgers Out of the NLCS

The Milwaukee Brewers finished off a 4-0 sweep of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLCS on Thursday night, winning Game 4 by a 6-4 score and ending L.A.’s run at a third straight World Series title.

As ClutchPoints reported, Garrett Mitchell’s solo homer in the top of the sixth put Milwaukee ahead 5-4, and David Hamilton added another solo shot in the ninth. The Dodgers put the tying run on base in three straight innings and couldn’t cash in. The final out was fitting: Kiké Hernández lined one to deep left, and Jackson Chourio squeezed it to send Milwaukee to the World Series.

Game 3 set the tone. The Brewers went into Dodger Stadium on Wednesday and won 6-2, putting L.A. one loss from elimination.

The IAHHM Take

This is the ultimate get-back. One year ago, it was the Dodgers who swept Milwaukee on the way to a second straight pennant. This October, the small-market team flipped the script on the biggest payroll in the sport, and did it without dropping a single game.

Hernández kept it real after the loss, per Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register: “It’s really hard to win in this sport. Sometimes you can’t always out-talent people.” He added that you have to “play the game and play better than the other team.”

That’s the whole series in two sentences. The Dodgers had the names. The Brewers had the at-bats that mattered.

Next up for Milwaukee is the winner of the ALCS, where Cleveland held a 2-1 series lead over Tampa Bay as of Thursday. Either way, the World Series is getting a team that doesn’t usually get the national spotlight.

So be honest: is this the end of the Dodgers’ dynasty window, or just a bad October for a team that’ll be right back? Let us know.
