Oklahoma Stuns No. 1 Texas in the Red River Rivalry, and Emmanuel Acho Is Not Okay

Oklahoma knocked off No. 1 Texas 27-24 at the Cotton Bowl on Saturday, and Tate Sandell’s game-winning field goal sent the Red River Rivalry into chaos. It’s the Sooners’ first win over an AP No. 1 team since 2007, as ClutchPoints reported.

Texas led 17-7 at halftime and still let it slip. Arch Manning threw for 260 yards and three touchdowns, but his two interceptions hurt, including a pick-six that gave Oklahoma its first lead. Texas falls to 4-1 (1-1 SEC), while Oklahoma improves to 3-2 (1-1 SEC).

Former Longhorns linebacker Emmanuel Acho didn’t hold back in a video on X. He called the loss “disgusting” and asked, “How the hell do you lose to an Oklahoma team when you outgain them by 150 yards?” His message to the quarterback was simple: “Arch, not good enough today, bro.”

The IAHHM Take: Rivalry Games Don’t Care About Rankings

This is why the Red River Rivalry is appointment TV. Things got heated after the final whistle too: Texas players were heard yelling “Y’all still suck” at Oklahoma, and Steve Sarkisian had to pull his guys away, per ClutchPoints. Talking like that after you lose tells you how much this one hurt.

Sarkisian kept it real afterward: “There’s a level of anger and frustration because we know we have issues that need to be fixed.” The biggest issue is easy to see. Texas and Alabama are the only two AP No. 1 teams to lose to unranked opponents since 2010, and you can’t win a title with a run game that goes nowhere.

One loss doesn’t end Texas’ College Football Playoff hopes, but the margin for error is gone. And the Arch Manning hype is going to get louder in both directions.

Is this an Arch problem or a Texas problem? Sound off. More college football on our Sports page.
