A’ja Wilson is a five-time WNBA MVP. The Las Vegas Aces star picked up the award again after a 2026 season where she averaged 26.2 points, 9.4 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.9 blocks and 1.4 steals while shooting 52.7% from the field and 40.4% from three, as reported by ClutchPoints.
Five MVPs puts her in a tiny club across major sports. ClutchPoints notes Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is the only one with six, while Michael Jordan, Bill Russell and Peyton Manning also won five.
Her partner, Miami Heat captain Bam Adebayo, was asked about it after Miami’s 128-118 preseason win over New Orleans. “It’s good to celebrate somebody that you know honestly deserves it,” he said. “You really can’t put five MVPs into words.” He added that people “just have to sit there and just like admire greatness.”
The IAHHM Take
The Carolinas should be claiming this one loud. Before Vegas, Wilson was a South Carolina Gamecock, and the Palmetto State has watched her grow from a college star into the most decorated player in the league. Five MVPs is not a hot streak. That’s a whole era.
The bittersweet part: the award landed in the same week her season ended. The Aces were swept by the second-year Golden State Valkyries in the semifinals, losing Game 3 in overtime, 87-77, per CBS Sports. That’s a reminder of how deep this league has gotten, and how much harder it’s getting to stack rings next to the trophies.
Also respect to Bam for the way he talked about it. In a sports world that loves to rank everybody against each other, hearing a star just say “admire greatness” hits different.
Where does A’ja rank all-time right now? Top three? Top one? Let us know.
