Mookie Betts knows how rare a three-peat is, and he’s not pretending otherwise. As the two-time defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers get ready for the NLDS, Betts got real about how hard it is to keep winning titles, as first reported by ClutchPoints.
“You dream of winning one and once you win one, it’s like, realistically, the chances of winning again are very very slim,” Betts said. He added that this group embraces the pressure: “We enjoy the target on our back … we’re vets.”
History on the Line
Per ClutchPoints, a third straight title would make the Dodgers just the third franchise to win three World Series in a row, joining the Yankees and the Oakland A’s. L.A. survived a seven-game World Series against Toronto last fall, when Miguel Rojas hit a game-tying homer in the ninth inning of Game 7.
For Betts, it would be ring No. 5, after titles with Boston in 2018 and the Dodgers in 2020, 2024 and 2025.
The IAHHM Take
Five rings would put Mookie in rare air for his generation, and he’s done it while moving all over the diamond for his team. That kind of résumé is what Cooperstown conversations are built on.
The road won’t be easy, though. Atlanta just took out Philadelphia, and Chris Sale is lined up for Game 2. NLDS Game 1 is Saturday in Los Angeles.
The “we’re older” admission is the part to watch. Experience wins in October, but so do fresh legs. Dodgers in four, or does Atlanta end the dynasty talk early? Let us hear it.
