HBCU and Carolina Game Day (Oct. 3): Notre Dame at UNC, Homecoming in Salisbury and Charlotte, Aggies and Eagles Under the Lights

It’s a full Saturday across the Carolinas. No. 3 Notre Dame is in Chapel Hill, NC A&T and NC Central both play under the lights, and the CIAA has a homecoming rivalry in Salisbury. Weather already moved one kickoff, so check your times below before you head out.

Byes this week: Duke (4-0), East Carolina, App State and Winston-Salem State are all off.

The HBCU Slate

Fayetteville State at Livingstone (Homecoming)

Kickoff: 1 p.m. ET, Alumni Memorial Stadium, Salisbury
Watch: CIAA Sports Network

It’s homecoming for the Blue Bears, and the opponent is a familiar one. Both teams come in at 2-3. Livingstone is trying to bounce back from an overtime loss to Shaw that came down to a 2-point conversion. Fayetteville State has dropped three straight, but those losses came against J.C. Smith and Virginia Union, and the Broncos’ defense is one of the stingiest in the CIAA. FSU leads the all-time series 29-17-2 and won 38-14 last year, but Livingstone took the 2024 meeting. Shaw at Bowie State

Kickoff: 1 p.m. ET, Bowie, Md.
Watch: CIAA Sports Network

Shaw is rolling at 4-1 after that overtime win over Livingstone. Bowie State (1-3) is calling this one “Cool Mac Day,” a staff appreciation game honoring Dr. Clyde Doughty Jr., with fans asked to wear black. (Bowie State Athletics)

Johnson C. Smith at Bluefield State

Kickoff: 1 p.m. ET, Bluefield, W.Va.
Watch: CIAA Sports Network

The Golden Bulls (3-1) head to the mountains to face a Bluefield State team that’s still looking for its first win at 0-5.

Elizabeth City State at Virginia Union

Kickoff: 1 p.m. ET, Richmond, Va.
Watch: CIAA Sports Network

A tough road trip for the Vikings (0-4) against a 4-1 Virginia Union team.

Campbell at NC Central

Kickoff: 6 p.m. ET, Durham
Watch: MEAC Digital Network

The Eagles (2-3) host a ranked Campbell team (4-1) in an in-state, non-conference FCS game. Campbell already beat NC A&T 42-14 this season, so NCCU has a chance to do something about that in front of the home crowd at O’Kelly-Riddick.

NC A&T at Bryant

Kickoff: 6 p.m. ET, Smithfield, R.I.
Watch: FloCollege

The Aggies (1-4, 1-1 CAA) finally broke through last week, upsetting No. 19 Rhode Island 22-18 in Greensboro. Now they take that momentum on the road to face Bryant (3-1). Mark your calendar: A&T’s 100th “Greatest Homecoming on Earth” game is Oct. 31 vs. Elon. (NC A&T Athletics)

The Big Schools

Memphis at Charlotte (Homecoming)

Kickoff: 11 a.m. ET (moved up from 3:30 p.m. because of expected bad weather)
Watch: ESPN+

It’s Niner Nation homecoming, and the 49ers (0-4) are looking for their first win in 13 games against a 3-1 Memphis team. If you’re tailgating, it’s an early wake-up call. (WFAE)

No. 3 Notre Dame at UNC

Kickoff: Noon ET, Kenan Stadium, Chapel Hill
Watch: ESPN

The game of the day in the state. Bill Belichick’s Tar Heels (2-1) come off a bye after a 28-20 loss at Clemson, and now the unbeaten Irish (4-0) come to town. It’s the first meeting between these two since 2022. (GoHeels)

Stanford at Wake Forest

Kickoff: Noon ET, Winston-Salem
Watch: ACC Network

The Deacs (3-1) are riding high after beating Louisville on a blocked field goal on the final play.

Louisville at NC State

Kickoff: 3:30 p.m. ET, Raleigh
Watch: ACC Network

Both teams are 2-2. The Wolfpack beat App State 41-31 earlier this season, holding the Mountaineers to 62 rushing yards, while Louisville is coming off that last-play loss to Wake.
