Manny Pacquiao could be headed back to a massive stage. According to Boxing News, talks are underway for Pacquiao to face Shakur Stevenson as the co-main event on the Anthony Joshua vs. Tyson Fury card, set for December 11 at Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales. Netflix is reportedly pushing hard for the double main event.
Pacquiao (62-8-3, 39 KOs) ended a four-year layoff last summer when he fought to a competitive draw with then-WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios. Stevenson (25-0, 11 KOs) is one of the best fighters in the sport, pound for pound.
Weight is the sticking point. Stevenson has said he’d only go as high as a 144-pound catchweight, and Pacquiao is unlikely to drop below 147. There’s also the age gap. Pacquiao is 47 and Stevenson is 29, which has some people questioning whether the fight makes sense, even with Pacquiao’s Hall of Fame résumé.
If the two sides can agree on a weight, the eight-division champion would be facing one of boxing’s top young stars on one of the biggest cards of the year.
