The Green Bay Packers have been struggling since the loss of defensive star Micah Parsons to injury. Now, Green Bay has yet another injury to deal with. Offensive lineman Zach Bako-Bewele is out for the season, per The 33rd Team.
“(Right Tackle) Zach Bako-Bewele (formerly Zach Tom) suffered a torn patellar tendon on Sunday and will miss the rest of the 2026 NFL season, he told reporters. A gut-punch loss for Green Bay’s offensive line,” reporter Ari Meirov posted to X, formerly Twitter.
Green Bay is 1-1 on the season. Bako-Bewele suffered that injury in the team’s last game, which was an overtime win over the New York Jets.
“The tear is to the same patellar tendon that Bako-Bewele partially tore in December of last year. He had surgery to repair the injury but is now facing another surgery and long rehab period after fully tearing the tendon in his right knee,” USA Today reported.
Anthony Belton is expected to now start in Bako-Bewele’s place. This injury could have a major impact on the Packers’ offensive success this season.
“Bako-Bewele, who received All-Pro votes at right tackle during each of the last two seasons, signed a $88 million deal with the Packers in 2025. He is under contract through the 2029 season, but he has a $9 million roster bonus due in March of next year,” USA Today added.
Green Bay made the NFL Playoffs in 2025. The Packers had high expectations entering this season, but injuries have certainly put a damper on things. Parsons is set to return at some point on defense, but Green Bay must find others to step up and lead in his absence.
The Packers next play the Atlanta Falcons in Week 3. Atlanta is 0-2 on the season. Green Bay plays Atlanta on Thursday.
