It’s obvious that Stephen A. Smith believes in the New York Knicks, even if some of his ESPN co-workers like Get Up’s Mike Greenberg aren’t.
He took to X, formerly Twitter, on the morning of May 27, 2026, to voice his displeasure with his ESPN co-workers. He tagged the likes of Greenberg, Vince Goodwill, Monica McNutt, and Michael Wilbon. Smith also tagged an account with the username Perkins, seemingly directed at Kendrick Perkins.
“So sick of the blasphemy I’m hearing in [Get Up] from [Kendrick Perkins], [Monica McNutt], [Vince Goodwill], [Mike Greenberg], and, of course the diabolical [Michael Wilbon]. Already wanting to tell [Knicks] fans the season is a success. They are NOT the ones who’ve suffered since 1973. They don’t get it. But they will, especially on [First Take] this morning. They’d better!!!”
Stephen A. Smith thinks the Knicks will win the NBA Finals
Smith’s rant shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. He is a diehard Knicks fan and has been for decades. He believes the team is destined to win the NBA Finals this year.
During the May 26, 2026, edition of First Take, Smith made his bold prediction for the NBA Finals. He appeared confident that New York would win their first title since 1973.
“They winning the chip! That’s where I’m going with this,” Smith said, though he conceded that New York would be the “underdog” against either Western Conference opponent.
The Oklahoma City Thunder just took a 3-2 lead over the San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference Finals (WCF), winning Game 5 by 13 points. Now, the series will return to San Antonio for Game 6. OKC has a chance of closing out the series then, but if they don’t, it will return to Oklahoma City for Game 7.
Meanwhile, the Knicks will be resting until the NBA Finals begin on Wednesday, June 3. They swept the Cleveland Cavaliers to advance to the Finals.
