The group’s board of trustees approved the decision on April 27 during its annual meeting, signaling continued confidence in the Atlanta-based HBCU’s academic progress and institutional stability.
The renewed accreditation not only ensures that Morris Brown can continue offering recognized degree programs but also opens the door to expanded opportunities for students, including access to federal financial aid and increased enrollment growth. For a college that once lost its accreditation and spent years fighting to rebuild, the moment represents both validation and sustained momentum.

This milestone arrives as the college celebrates its 145th anniversary. Morris Brown lost its accreditation in 2002 and spent nearly two decades working to restore it, making this latest reaffirmation a defining moment in its long-term recovery. Officials say the decision reflects the institution’s continued adherence to academic standards and measurable improvements over the past several years.
Campus life at Morris Brown continues to expand alongside its academic resurgence. The college is moving forward with plans to grow programs in high-demand fields such as hospitality management while also reporting significant enrollment gains. After serving just 20 students in 2019, Morris Brown now enrolls more than 520 students. Officials also expect 92 graduates this May—the largest graduating class the institution has seen in more than two decades.
