Quest LA Interview
How did you get your start in the music game?
I took my own steps into the music game following a bad breakup I had a couple months ago. I connected with my guy Stew through Instagram, to release my first ever single, and it was a domino effect from there.
What was the inspiration behind your new “A Guy Called Quest” EP release?
I think with this EP I wanted to show people the versatility I come with. I don’t just have a soft sensitive side that talks about love, life and failed relationships in my arsenal. I have words and clips for any and every genre or topic of music.
How do you balance school and being an artist on the rise?
It definitely is not the easiest thing to maintain. I just make sure I put my studies first, especially being that I’m so close to graduation. It is easy for me to put that right foot forward and handle the schooling. It’s first nature, whereas music and being an artist is new to me. Carrying myself as an artist is difficult and I sometimes have to remind myself that I’m not just a student anymore.
Who are some of your music influences?
I try to imitate a lot of artists but some of my biggest influences are Drake, J Cole, Reason, and Meek Mill. I know that these are all totally different lanes but they all resonate with me. Everything from their cadences, and topics, to the passion in which they deliver lyrically.
Can we expect any visuals from the songs on the project?
Yes. You all can definitely expect some visuals! I can’t say which tracks, but just know my team and I have some great projects in store for this one!
What is one thing most people don’t know about you?
Most people do not know that I’m really and truly an introvert. I enjoy my own time and my own company. I fell in love with my own space and I love my routine. I often have to be reminded by my team and loved ones that I have to be in and out of studios, posting constantly, having shoots, meeting people, and networking. These are the simple day to day duties of being an artist.
What can we expect next from you?
Definitely be on the lookout for more music coming this year. I am not sure what direction I want to go in, but I know I do want to continue to showcase and highlight my versatility.
How can readers stay in contact with you?
I keep two phones on me daily so hit me directly on IG @questmusiq. If I don’t see it, then somebody from my team will and it’ll get back to me always!
