Over the course of his life, Nigerian born artist Wil Akogu has been no stranger to change. After migrating over to the United States early on in life, he bounced around between Chicago and Los Angeles before finally settling down in the city of angels. Throughout this journey, he picked up an array of talents that have turned him into sort of an anomaly. Looking to prove his prowess, he checks into our pages for the first time with his engaging new project, Die An Idea.
Clocking in at a 33 minute-run-time, Die An Idea is a peek into the psyche of Akogu, as there is no subject off limits. Touching on topics ranging from religion and relationships to things like perseverance, Akogu does a brilliant job of articulating his feelings throughout the reflective project. On records like, “WTMM,” he creates an air of angst as he details a time in which he realized he had very little to lose and was ready to risk all of it. Accompanied by a video that appropriately captures that feeling to a tee. Other standouts from the project include, “Grown,” “REDLIGHT” and “God’s Chant,” a 3-song-run that that finds Akogu getting deep in his bag.
With a couple of strong projects under his belt, it’s now time to hop on the Wil Akogu bandwagon. Take a listen to Die An Idea below and get familiar for yourself.
