Meet BossPlaya: Houston's Next Big Rap Star
Houston, Texas rapper Bossplaya has done a great job of making a name for himself. Coming off the release of his “Luxury” single, it is clear that he has what it takes to break into the mainstream music circuit. His southern upbringing and love for creating high-quality music, are two elements that pour out in all of Bossplaya's music. In the “Luxury” visual viewers get a chance to see the lifestyle he lives and indulges in regularly.
I had the pleasure of speaking with the Houston native for a candid interview to discuss his latest visual, his authentic sound, and some rappers he hopes to work within the near future. Check out the full interview below.
Bossplaya Interview
What was the inspiration behind the luxury visual?
Bossplaya: The world, it was from my life; “the city streets of houston texas, I’m a jack of all trades from the hoes, the pimps, even the robbers and the drug dealers, the streets it all comes from the streets. I always experience the suburbs so even there too, I was able to pull from everywhere. I’m a jack of all trades.” We are the sum of our experiences.
How did the upbringing decide your career in entertainment?
Bossplaya: Music is an imitation in real life; whether you look at Beyonce, Cardi B, Nicki Minaj, or Lil Kim, most entertainers draw influence from the streets. Jay-Z is a businessman, but he is a hustler who comes from the streets. You can’t have one without the other. Artists like Megan Thee Stallion and Cardi B, dress provocatively to turn heads and make you look their way and even Lil Kim. This tactic it comes from the streets, the first lady doesn’t dress like that. The artists know how to play with their image and it comes from the streets, not saying what they are but it influenced them.
Where do you think your sound originated from? What’s the best way to describe your sound?
Bossplaya: I am a jack of all trades. Reality rap is where my words come from. I’m a city slicker and a gang spitter. My music comes from a fast life, now we get paid to spit the [s**t] all day.
Who is the most inspirational person to your career as it seems to take off?
Bossplaya: You gotta be self-motivated because it has to be inside of you. Many don’t understand that, but not just in me but also around me. You got to expect trustworthiness, integrity, balance, public spirit, reliability, worth, honesty, and just public spirit. You want true heartedness because I say an ace is an ace and a spade is a spade. I’m a powerful perfectionist because it’s in me and when I say that I mean you can go get Gucci and things like that but what I have is not able to be bought. You have to inspire yourself when you look in the mirror because you can’t find it in the world. You gotta get up and get it from yourself.
Who are some artists you want to work with as you make your way to mainstream music?
Bossplaya: Lil Wayne definitely, because he is the goat. From his old music to today, he is still really amazing. Chris Brown, Drake, etc artists like that because I want to do what I do with the best. Music is about a feeling, and if I listen to a song and get no feelings from it I might think it’s a bad song even if it comes from people like Micheal Jackson, Justin Bieber, Future, Trey Songz, etc. It really depends on the mood.
Where do you see yourself musically in the next 5 years?
Bossplaya: In the next 5 years, I see myself owning a label. Having producers, artists, etc. I want to be able to rep the family, AOG.
When can we expect a full project from you?
Bossplaya: Oh yeah, we are just waiting for the right time with the COVID-19 going on. I definitely have something in the works though.
