Duru Tha King

Duru Tha king, a Charlotte pioneer has been grinding. The resurgence of Charlotte rap has happened, a surge like we have never seen before. However there has been one void that desperately needed to be filled. Finally the time has come, the wait is over and we will hear Duru’s first studio album ‘SOHO,’ coming this summer.

When you hear the word grind about an artist, you usually believe that it is them in the studio, writing rhymes, fighting probation, or allure of other things. However the New Charlotte rapper has evolved internally, externally, and it also can be heard in his music. “ I don’t look for much validation from others when I’m creating anymore,” the Charlotte native told me. Duru is an influential rapper in his own right, he also was inspired by Nip, Jay-Z, Otis Redding, and many other talented artists.

Every artist named above that has influenced Tha King, SOHO will be his version of Reasonable Doubt or Victory Lap. The number one thing that should be expected on the upcoming project will be his tangible way of showing growth as a man and an artist. Indoor Plus and New Charlotte brought Duru in on fire and is the reason why he continues to keep a loyal fan base. However when he took a hiatus too continue to help his family when they needed him, music had to take to the back burner for a second.

“The organic fans I have are definitely loyal. I use to feel like there weren’t many of them but one day I looked at my analytics on Spotify I really got to see where my organic fan base is at and see they’re consistent with their support, new music or not.”

Duru loves his fans, he also elaborated on how his new sound on his upcoming album will be new to fans and he hopes they’ll progress with him as he continues to mature and grow in his career.

“The vibes of my music is a different story and different feel, the beats I use are a different sound. I didn’t just give up on music in the three years I was quiet, I had real life going on and what I went through changed me as a person, changed my perspective and naturally with that changed my sound and what I’m writing about,” Tha King told IAHHM.

When artists begins to evolve, it’ll not only be heard in their music. You’ll also be able to see it in their actions as well.

Asked by IAHHM how his music will continue to progress Duru was honest and direct.

“I’m staying focused and determined. There’s no way I won’t progress if I’m staying on top of my grind and don’t give up. I know how I want my end result to look and there’s no other way but up. I wake up every morning, pray, and go to work on my future I see so clearly for my family that I’ve built, and because of the love I have around me, how could I not wake up with that mind set?”

Hell of an artist and ‘BIG SOHO,’ will be legendary! The date will be released soon. Follow Duru below.
