DIAVIAN ( dee-ah-vee-ahn) is her stage name and her real name. Residing from Richmond, California to be exact; The 19 year old has been rapping/writing since she was 8. Music has always played a big part in her life , growing up around a lot of neo soul and r&b, rap was around to but mainly neosoul. Artist like Erykah Badu to the group ‘Floetry,’ were influences. Diavian’s mother loved music so it was just always around. The reason the Richmond native began rapping because of this lil kid named Scooter Smith.
When she was younger she used to look music up on YouTube and she ended up finding him. Inspiring a kid like her performing in front of big ass crowds and in Diavian’s words “I was like man I wanna do that too. I remember he had this rap he did for a teen magazine I’m not really sure which one but I like copied it and changed some words around to make it mine and I been writing ever since that day.”
She would perform in talent shows and in front of family and loved the reaction. She knew it was meant for me to do it . Later on she began writing poetry, the versatility shows in her music .

“Writing music was always an escape I can do whatever in a song and I can be whoever. I progressed as an artist over the years I feel like if you listen to my old music it really didn’t have any substance I was just saying anything that rhymed but now I have different things to talk about due to experience. “Some years ago when I got to middle school I stopped rapping because I felt like it wouldn’t work for me but then I had got caught up smoking weed in the house and my mama took away my phone tv basically everything that kept me entertained and sent me to my granny house during the day with a pencil some paper and some books so I started rapping again and I haven’t stopped since.“
Diavian on how her cousin’s death affected her and her music.
“It was heavy on me cuz he was like my brother and I had did a song for him and it kinda did numbers on SoundCloud and I was like man I can do this the feed back was crazy from people they loved it just as they loved it when I was younger.”
Inspirations: Allblack , mozzy, jhene aiko, trippie red , meek mill , fmb dz, da boii , nba young boy , and yungeen ace. “All those artist are completely different but their sounds it’s just something about how they flow or how they sing and even what they have to say.”
