76ers forward LeBron James reacts

Sixteen Thousand: LeBron Becomes the First Player Ever to Hit 16,000 Career Field Goals

LeBron James is now the only player in NBA history with 16,000 made field goals. He reached the mark Wednesday night as the Philadelphia 76ers visited the Detroit Pistons at Little Caesars Arena, as first reported by ClutchPoints.

He picked up another piece of history on the same night. According to ClutchPoints, LeBron has now recorded assists to more than 205 different NBA players, the most of anyone in the play-by-play era, after finding Paul Reed.

The IAHHM Take

Let that number breathe for a second. Sixteen thousand buckets. This is LeBron’s 24th season, he turns 42 in December, and he came into the night averaging 16.2 points, 7.3 assists and 7.0 rebounds while shooting 45.1% from the field. Most players are a decade into retirement at that age. He’s still stacking records in a Sixers jersey.

Hit 16,000 field goals in a career and you’re not just a scorer. You’re a guy who showed up every night for more than two decades. That’s the part of LeBron’s legacy that gets lost in the GOAT debates: the durability. Twenty-four seasons of being the main event.

ClutchPoints notes this season could be his last. If it is, every milestone from here on is a farewell lap, so soak it in while you can. The 205-teammates stat says just as much about him as the field goals do. Half the league has a LeBron assist on their résumé.

Where does 16,000 rank for you among LeBron’s records: above the all-time scoring crown, or just another line on the list?
