Cardi B is one of the faces of T: The New York Times Style Magazine’s 2026 Greats issue, and the shoot is a whole different side of the Bronx star. She shared the cover on her verified Instagram on Wednesday, October 21, and the internet did the rest.
The Look
This isn’t loud Cardi. It’s all-black, serious-glamour Cardi. On the cover she wears a tasseled leather coat from Loewe over a black Nili Lotan dress, with a Bulgari snake necklace and ring. Inside, the looks keep building: a plunging Nili Lotan halter with Graff necklaces and Christian Louboutin heels, an ankle-length pleated Chanel dress with a deep V and a black feather flower, and a black Balenciaga gown with a long train and David Webb earrings.

The shoot happened in New York City on September 9, and the story that goes with it, “The Many Lives of Cardi B,” was written by Emily Lordi.
Why It Hit
Landing in T’s annual Greats issue says a lot on its own. Cardi has spent years being treated like a personality first and an artist second. A cover story titled “This Is Not a Gimmick,” built around quiet, couture-level all-black looks, flips that script on purpose.
It also works because the styling trusts her. No props, no gimmicks, just strong silhouettes and big jewelry, with Tokyo Stylez on hair and Erika La’ Pearl on makeup. Fans quickly praised the elegance online, and it’s easy to see why: it’s one of the most grown, most editorial looks Cardi has had on a cover, and it lands about a year after her second album, Am I the Drama?
