WWE Reportedly Kicks Out Westside Gunn & Sends Cease and Desist Over References

In a surprising clash between hip-hop and pro wrestling, reports have surfaced that WWE allegedly removed rapper Westside Gunn from a recent show and issued a cease and desist over his use of wrestling-related imagery and references in his music and artwork.

The Buffalo MC, known for blending luxury street rap with wrestling culture, has long incorporated classic wrestling visuals, soundbites, and themes into his releases — from Hitler Wears Hermes to Pray for Paris and his latest series, Heels Have Eyes.

According to reports, WWE’s legal team took issue with Gunn’s use of likenesses and logos associated with the brand, particularly across his Heels Have Eyes trilogy. The rapper has since updated the album covers to remove or alter certain wrestling references.

The controversy came to a head after Gunn was allegedly escorted out of a WWE event, despite being a longtime supporter and attendee of wrestling shows around the world.

Gunn later took to social media to express his frustration, writing:

“I made [WWE] look kool, when at the time ppl thought it was nerdy.”

What Next?

Westside Gunn has been one of the few artists to bridge the worlds of rap and pro wrestling authentically. His Griselda imprint helped make wrestling culture mainstream in hip-hop, using it as a symbol of confidence, theatrics, and creative storytelling.

From naming songs after legends like Chris Benoit, Brodie Lee, and Sting, to appearing front-row at major events, Gunn’s influence has reshaped how younger fans view wrestling in pop culture.

So to see WWE — the very company he helped rebrand as “cool” — reportedly push him away feels like an ironic twist to the saga.

Regardless of legal tensions, Westside Gunn’s impact on both hip-hop and wrestling culture is undeniable. He turned niche fandom into art direction, merged luxury fashion with ring psychology, and made the squared circle feel cinematic again.
