Self-Affirmation: The recognition and assertion of the existence and value of one’s individual self
We, as humans, often feel hurt, confused, misguided, and anxious when we think of our futures and how we would ideally like them to be for us. Sometimes, we feel powerless over our immediate situations and feel like we have no way out. We tend to let our emotions get the best of us. Life is wonderful at being a dramatic distraction to what’s important and essential. But, what if you could be your best self every day? What if you could be the Best Version of you, right now, in this very moment? What would you do? Who would you be? Where would you go? Who and what would you love? What if I told you that you already have the answers to your own questions and the solutions to your own problems within yourself? Before you think I’m crazy, ask yourself: Am I really in tune with self spiritually, physically, and mentally? We as people tend to forget how important it is for all aspects of our being to be aligned and balanced. If you are not right and whole within, the result of the chaos will reflect on your lifestyle, habits, and movements.
Many people were not raised in positivity breeding households, but that certainly doesn’t take away from their ability to take control of their lives just as easily as anyone. Some of us may have had toxic parents or grew up in toxic environments and situations, some of us may have grown up with an absent parent, and some people may even have none. But, our background will never define us. We all ultimately come from the same source of divinity. The temporary environment that we come from does not depict our infinite and limitless future and life path. If anyone has ever led you to believe otherwise, forget them and that concept. YOU are the only person that can stunt your personal growth and stop your greatness. Your past situations and decisions, for better or worse, accumulate to the most precious lessons and pieces of wisdom that you could ever possess. The true meaning of life is happiness. Money is an allusion. Attention is an allusion. The very presence of people around you, all smoke and mirrors. All that matters in this life is you, the decisions you choose to make, and the way that you choose to feel going about them every day. Everything else is static and noise. Sometimes, we all need to take a step back from the noise and really take a listen to our inner selves. What are you saying to you, every day you live? Listen to your body. Have you nourished and hydrated it properly? Have you fed your brain with valuable information lately? Have you told yourself how much you love you in the morning? Depression, anxiety, and a slew of other mental health issues all stem from a loss of control OR lack of control of self. And there is a way out. They just want you to believe that you need to see a doctor and take prescriptions to find it. You, yes YOU, are your own solution just like you might be your own problem. The moment you decide to shut everything else out and pour into you everything that truly makes your heart beat and your smile shine, you win. You are successful when you realize that you are your best friend, teacher, lover, and parent. No one can do you better than you. That is your power. You beam it up when you begin to self-reflect and fix the things internally and externally you know you could do better with.
Start being responsible for yourself again today. Look in the mirror and tell yourself that you are going to have a great day simply and wholeheartedly; just because you said it to be true. Do not ever stop yourself from doing something different to make you feel better. Speak out loud who you are and what you will do. There are no “tries” in reality. You do or you don’t. Solidify your intentions before speaking them into existence. If you need assistance on how to begin the practice of self-love or how to start redirecting your life according to what you desire, here are some simple and effective self-affirmation starters:
- I am boundless and infinite
- I am blessed
- I am strong
- I will survive
- I will be successful
- I will be my best person
- I will have an amazing day
- I will be productive today
- I will persevere
- I love every single part of myself, inside and out
Why put off for tomorrow what you can do right now? Jot down some short-term goals, take some deep breaths, redefine yourself to yourself in the mirror. Make your dreams of happiness and success your reality every day. Be your best you today, for you. Remember, there are always those who are watching. Lead by example. Dare to be different, fearlessly and faithfully.
