WHERE DOES DRAKE RANK IN YOUR BEST OVERALL RAPPER LIST? WHAT DO YOU THINK THE PUSHA T BEEF DID FOR BOTH PARTIES?

A. Honestly, I wouldn’t include drake in my best overall rapper list. I am a Drake fan, but I see him as more of an all-around music artist. That list should be reserved for real RAPPERS. I think the beef was good for promotion of Pusha’s album, but other than that, I don’t really feel it did much more for either of them.

FAVORITE HIP HOP GROUP OF ALL TIME? A. That’s a tough one! I’d have to go with Wu-Tang Clan. They were more of a collective I guess but I mean, there’s no one like them.

WHAT HAS THE HARDEST OBSTACLE AS AN INDEPENDENT RECORDING ARTIST BEEN? A. The hardest obstacle for me has been consistency. It can get hard to stay motivated and focused when you feel like no one is listening, but consistency is key!

WHAT PLATFORM ARE YOU USING TO DISTRIBUTE YOUR MUSIC AND WHY? A. I distribute my music on every platform. It’s important for me to make sure that anyone who wants to listen, can and has access to my vibes.

WHAT IS YOUR STANCE ON KANYE WEST? A. I’m a Kanye fan. As someone who has struggled with mental health, I guess I’m able to see past a lot of things other people hold against him. But he really is a genius musically. If I’m not mistaken he can see sounds, and that’s such a dope thing. I try not to focus on all the gossip shit, my opinions come from my love of music

. HOW MANY ARTISTS HAVE YOU COLLABORATED WITH LOCALLY? A. I’ve collaborated with a few local artists, I’d say a handful. I’m generally open to collaborating with anyone as long as I feel the vibe and it’s some shit I can relate to

. HOW SERIOUS ARE YOU ABOUT MAKING A LIVING FROM MUSIC? ARE YOU A STUDENT OF THE GAME? A. I’ve never been more serious about anything in my life. All I’ve ever wanted to do since elementary school is write and record music. I’m definitely what you would call a student of the game. You have to be if you want to perfect your craft.

WHAT IS LACKING IN HIP HOP MUSIC THAT YOU THINK YOU CAN CHANGE? A. Emotion and authenticity. Everyone is so caught up in the clout and following trends. Damn near no one is true to who they really are anymore. And there’s a lack of substance because there’s a lack of emotion. People are afraid to be vulnerable. I’m not though, so hopefully I can bring that back.

IN ORDER, RANK YOUR TOP 5 PRODUCERS IN THE GAME RIGHT NOW. A. Man, I’m the wrong person to ask this question! I don’t really care who has the hottest beats. I’m about the story and the feeling

. FAVORITE ALBUM OF 2018 ? A. I think it’d have to be between Kids See Ghosts, KOD, and The Carter V for me. I probably bumped those the most

. IN ORDER, RANK YOUR TOP 5 RAPPERS IN THE GAME. A. Oh here we go. Rappers who are active, I guess I’d go Big Sean, J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Joyner Lucas, Travis Scott.

IF YOU COULD COLLABORATE WITH ANY SINGER MALE OR FEMALE FOR A JOINT ALBUM WHO WOULD IT BE? A. If we’re talking mainstream, The Weeknd is my guy. Also H.E.R. or 6lack could vibe out. If we’re talking rising artists, there’s a singer named Asiahn who I would LOVE to do a joint project with. I listen to R&B 85% of the time, so this list could grow forever.

DO YOU THINK THE STREAMING ERA IS HURTING OR BENEFITING ARTISTS THESE DAYS? A. I think streaming is changing the game. It does hurt in some areas, like when we’re talking Billboard charts and such but I think it’s very beneficial for indie artists especially.

WHAT WOULD YOUR ADVICE BE TO ASPIRING ARTISTS FROM YOUR AREA? A. My advice for ALL aspiring artists would be to just stay true to you and keep pushing. The only person who can ever stop you is YOU.

WHERE ARE YOU FROM? A. I was born and raised in Roanoke, VA. I rep the DMV as a whole because I did move to Maryland and I do a lot of business in DC. But Roanoke, VA is the city I’m putting on the map!

WHEN AND HOW DID YOU GET INTO MUSIC? A. I wrote my first song when I was about nine years old and it was set in stone after that. I’d say I really got started seriously in college when I met some folks who really helped me get into the business of things.

HOW DID YOU CHOOSE YOUR RAP NAME? A. Well, my real name is Ebonii and I wanted some kind of connection to that so that’s where the ‘E’ comes from. I added ‘Bandit’ to the end because my mentality is if you’re not gonna give it to me, I’m gonna take it. So there you have it, E. Bandit.

HOW WILL YOU CHANGE THE INDUSTRY? A. I’ll change the industry by being a true creative. I’m an artist. I don’t care about the wave or what everyone else is doing. I want to express my truths and inspire people to do the same thing.

WHAT MOTIVATED OR INSPIRED YOU TO RECORD YOUR LAST PROJECT? A. My last project, Numb & Void, was deeply personal. It was basically a complete tell all account of my last relationship. I write a lot of songs about women and relationships, it’s kind of my thing.

HAS THERE BEEN ANY TIME IN YOUR JOURNEY WHERE YOU’VE FELT LIKE PURSUING SOMETHING OTHER THAN MUSIC? A. Like I said before, there are times I’ve been discouraged and I’ve lost focus, but I don’t think there’s anything else I could do besides music It’s all I’ve ever wanted.

WHOSE SIDE WERE YOU ON, BIGGIE OR PAC? A. I fucks with them both. You almost can’t compare the two. Biggie had the flow and the style, but Pac had the substance and the realness. We needed them both for sure.

IF YOU HAD ONE SONG OF YOURS TO PERFORM ON NATIONAL TV, WHAT WOULD IT BE? A. Hm.. Well if we’re talking songs I’ve released, I’d probably go with A.L.L. Love. It’s not genre specific and it would appeal to a broader audience. But I have an unreleased track called Temporary Thrills that I would LOVE to perform on national TV so look out for that soon.

IF YOU WERE OFFERED A PERFECT DISTRIBUTION/SPONSORSHIP FROM EVERY MAJOR COMPANY IN AMERICA, WHICH COMPANY WOULD SUIT YOU AND YOUR BRAND THE MOST? A. I think about this a lot. I honestly don’t know, ask me again in six months lol

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MOVIE? FAVORITE ACTOR? A. Yo, I LOVE movies! Like for real, I’m a huge movie buff. Don’t joke me, but Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (the original one) has always been my favorite movie. I even have a little tattoo dedication! My favorite actor right now is Harold Perrineau. This nigga is seriously slept on! I’ve seen him as a gangster, in a wheelchair, as a drag queen, autistic, literally everything and he never disappoints! He’s dope.

TELL ME SOME OF YOUR BIGGEST AND/OR MOST ENJOYABLE MOMENTS SO FAR? A. I think my most enjoyable moments have been just meeting so many other dope artists and sharing myself with the world as a whole. My EP was chosen by BandCamp and October’s best Hip Hop so that’s cool. I’ve won a few video competitions too, but I just really enjoy the love for real.

NAME 3 THINGS THAT MAKE YOU UNIQUE AS AN ARTIST? A. Well I wear a mask so there’s that. I only write songs about MY life and shit I’ve actually been through or am currently going through. I like to mesh genres instead of just trying to be like everyone else (aka a trap star).

WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF GOING WITH THIS? WHAT ARE YOUR BIG PLANS? A. I want to be an icon. There are leaders and there are followers in this game and I’ll never be the latter. Everyone is going to know my vibe.

ANY PROJECTS IN THE WORKS? A. YES! I’m working on a little something that should be out in February! I don’t wanna give too much away yet, but there’s a thin line between love and hate, and that’s all I’ll say.

WHAT ARE YOUR RATES FOR FEATURES? A. I’m a songwriter first so my rates vary depending on what you need from me. I can work with a budget though! WHAT’S THE BEST WAY TO GET IN CONTACT IF WE NEED WORK DONE? A. The best way to contact me is through my email ebanditmusic@gmail.com
